Martin Friesch – From Kusterdingen to Detroit

I was searching for Jakob Friesch, who moved in September 1866 from Kusterdingen with his whole family to a farm in Gallenhof, in the Backnang County. From the church records there I found out that one son, Martin Friesch, born Aug 17,1866 in Kusterdingen emigrated to the U.S. This emigration was not mentioned in the book of Dr. Schmid, because the emigration didn’t occur from Kusterdingen  directly

In the passenger list I have found a matching entry for Martin. According the passenger list he arrived on Jul 19, 1890 in New York on board the ship  Trave sailing from Bremen via Southhampton to New York.

Martin married presumably in Michigan, Anna Marie Messner, who was the U.S. born daughter of a German emigrant couple.

Their marriage was blessed with at least three children:

  • Lydia R. Friesch, *Jul 19, 1893, +Feb, 1894
  • George Carl Friesch, *Jan 1, 1897, +March 18, 1966 and
  • Minie Clara Friesch, *June 22, 1905, +October  10,  2001

According to may current knowledge only George was married.

Martin Friesch passed away on August 21, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan and was buried on the  Lake View Cemetery  in Calumet, Houghton County, Michigan.

According the church records in Gallenhof, the siblings where spread across the state of  Baden-Wuerttemberg. Only Johann Adam Friesch returned to his hometown area and shoud be married in Betzingen.

The parents of Martin,  Jakob Friesch (+December 17, 1919) und Anna Maria Ebinger (+February 21, 1902) as well as his grandfather,  Johann Jacob Friesch (+September 21, 1890) died all in Gallenhof.
